164th Metcalfe Fair

The Metcalfe Fair annually celebrates agricultural and is a source of entertainment. During these unprecedented times, our goals have not changed.

As we pivot the 2020 Fair, our philosophy is less is more. We want to provide an exceptional experience that fair-goers and exhibitors have come to expect. But we are also realistic and know that given the current phase of re-opening our city and province is in while taking into consideration the capacity of our volunteers, we will host only a few events and do them well.

FAQs
Have questions about the 2020 Metcalfe Fair? We've tried to anticipate them. But if they're not answered below, you can contact Cheryl Sullivan at office@metcalfefair.com.

Why are we not having a traditional fair?

The Metcalfe Fair situation is not unique. Around the world, festivals, sporting events, conferences and community celebrations are being cancelled or postponed helping flatten the curve of COVID-19. We are doing our part to keep our community safe.

After extensive consideration of the current landscape related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the health and safety of all fairgoers, staff, partners, and the overall community, the Metcalfe Agricultural Society Board of Directors voted not to host the Fair as everyone knows it to be and loves.

This was an extremely tough decision. The decision-making process was thoughtful and extensive. We realize the impact not holding a Fair will have on our loyal fair-goers, sponsors, donors, exhibitors, vendors, volunteers and employees but we must do what is right for the health and wellness of our community.

What do you mean by planning a fair?

The Metcalfe Fair annually celebrates agricultural and is a source of entertainment. During these unprecedented times, our goals have not changed. There are many elements that we know we can host, regardless of whether we are able to be near one another or not.

Is there a chance the Metcalfe Fair will be hosted the way people know it to be?

We do know that will be able to host a few events that can abide by the health and safety guidelines instituted by government bodies, however, the fullness of the fair, such as the mid-way, will not be run.

We will remain open and transparent during these times and commit to keeping you informed every step of the way.

What happens if physical distancing restrictions are lifted and events can take place again?

The Metcalfe Fair is also considering different types of events under the fair umbrella that we can host anytime of the year, while ensuring the health and safety of our community. We would love to hear any ideas you might have.

Why were these confirmed events selected?

Unfortunately, we are not able to host all events due to several COVID-19-related factors – most importantly, the health and safety of all involved. We are focusing on offering events that celebrate the spirit of the Fair and have the capability to execute safely, while still maintaining the traditional level of quality you expect from a Metcalfe Fair celebration. We look forward to resuming a traditional schedule of events in 2021.

Will admission or parking be charged?

We will not be charging for admission or parking, however, encouraging donations to help offset costs to host our events and give back to the community who supports the Fair so greatly.

If guest limitations are in place, will I still be able to watch the show?

To abide by all current guidelines and maintain physical distancing, a limited number of in-person passes will be provided to on-site events. The Fair plans to offer a live stream of those events so all members of the community can enjoy. More information concerning any live streams will be available on our website and social media channels.
